Privacy policy
Effective October 30, 2026 · applies to familyoverture.com and the Family Overture iPhone app
What stays on your device
Your letters, who they’re for, your answers to the reflection questions, your ratings on the five scales, your keep-or-change choices, the dates you mark a letter sent or replied, and any Community posts you hide.
- On the website, these are kept in your browser’s own storage.
- In the iPhone app, they’re kept in a file on your iPhone that is encrypted while the phone is locked and is left out of iCloud and computer backups.
The “check before you send” review runs on your device too. Nothing you write in a letter is sent to us or to anyone else. Because of that, we can’t see, recover or delete it for you: clearing your browser data, deleting the app or changing devices erases it for good.
What you send us, only if you choose to
- Reviews: the first name or initials you type, your star rating and your review.
- Comments and replies: the first name or initials you type and your comment.
- Reports: which post you reported, the reason, and any note you add.
There are no accounts, and we don’t ask for your email address. Reviews and comments are read by a person before they appear and are public once approved. Reports are not public.
These are stored on our server, which is hosted by Amazon Web Services in the United States. When someone reports a post, the reason and the post are emailed to us through an email service, Resend, so we can deal with it quickly.
Internet addresses and other technical details
- To slow down spam, when you post or report, our server keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of your internet (IP) address in memory for up to ten minutes. It is never saved to disk, and our web server keeps no visitor logs.
- The website loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the site loads, as with any website that uses them. The iPhone app doesn’t use Google Fonts.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking cookies. We don’t sell or share information with anyone.
Reminders in the iPhone app
If you turn on reminders, they’re scheduled on your iPhone itself. They never show who a letter is for or what it says, and nothing about them is sent to us.
Removing something you posted
Since there are no accounts, email us with roughly what it said and when you posted it, and we’ll remove it. To flag someone else’s post, use Report under it.
Children
Family Overture is meant for adults and isn’t directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
